JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking 12 Qualitative Researchers based in the Ilha de Moçambique, Ribaué, and Meconta districts to assist with the Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI) Assessment. The researchers will be responsible for collecting qualitative and quantitative data from youth and other key informants in these districts. The role includes conducting one-on-one interviews, moderating focus group discussions, taking notes during interviews and discussions, ensuring the timely submission of high-quality data, and participating in data synthesis.
This is a short-term, independent contractor position with the opportunity to contribute to a meaningful project aimed at improving the sexual and reproductive health and protection rights of adolescents and young people in Nampula province.
JOB TYPE
This is a short-term, independent contractor position that will cover a three-week period from November 4 to November 22, 2024, with a possibility of extension depending on project needs.
LOCATION
The Qualitative Researchers must reside in one of the target districts—Ilha de Moçambique, Ribaué, or Meconta—due to the requirement for field visits within these areas. Familiarity with the local context, including languages, culture, and logistical dynamics specific to these districts, is essential for effective community engagement.

All salary ranges are based on level within the organization and are competitive to regional and national salary benchmarks, based on the respective office location.
PAY RATE
The pay rate for this position is commensurate with experience and will be discussed during the hiring process. Please submit your daily rate for consideration.
YOU WILL:
Support the recruitment of young people and other community key influencers for their participation in the assessment using a screener tool provided by the YLabs tea.
Participate in a 3-day training on project overview, sexual and reproductive health rights, safeguarding, data collection tools, and interview moderation techniques from November 4 to November 6.
Collect data through FGDs and KIIs across three districts in Nampula from November 6 to November 15, ensuring high-quality and accurate data.
Facilitate the daily upload of collected data into the designated database.
Provide feedback on any fieldwork challenges and propose solutions to improve the data collection process.
Assist with data entry and translation of findings from November 18 to November 22.
YOU ARE:
Fluent in Portuguese and local languages such as Emakhuwa or Koti.
Previous experience conducting qualitative and quantitative research or data collection and conducting interviews, preferably in similar settings.
Familiarity with the cultural and social dynamics of Nampula Province.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work with tight deadlines.
Familiarity with safeguarding protocols and data confidentiality.
Between the ages of 18-35
YOU HAVE:
Fluency in Portuguese and a local language spoken in the district (e.g., eMakhuwa or Koti). Basic English skills are a plus.
Residency in one of the target districts: Ilha de Moçambique, Ribaué, or Meconta.
Previous experience conducting research with young people is preferred but not required
Strong communication skills and ability to interact respectfully with community members.
A basic understanding of how to use a smartphone or tablet for data entry.
High attention to detail and accuracy in collecting and recording data.
Ability to follow instructions and adhere to protocols set by the project team.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a field environment.
Experience with participatory research methods is highly desirable.
